Paris, France.

Paris Is Always A Good Idea..

“I mean come on, there’s nothing happening on Jupiter or Neptune, but from way out in space you can see these lights, the cafés, people drinking and singing. For all we know, Paris is the hottest spot in the universe.”

– O W E N W I L S O N

It’s no secret that I love Paris. I love Paris in the winter, I love paris in the summer, I even love Paris in the rain.. and just when I couldn’t love Paris anymore – well, I find another reason to do so.

Paris has the ability to cure almost anything. Birthday celebrations? Paris it is. Graduation? Paris it is. Bored in London? Paris it is. Stressed over work? Paris it is. Heartbroken? Yes, unfortunately, Paris it is. Oh, and it really does help that my best friend lives opposite the Eiffel Tower. Destiny.. if you ask me.

If you’ve yet to grasp what I’m trying to articulate.. well, I just love Paris. Having visited more times than my fingers are able to count, the love seems to only strengthen the more I visit.

Now its time for me to make you fall in love.

Venice, Italy.

The floating city of utopia.

To build a city where it is impossible to build a city is madness in itself, but to build one of the most elegant and grandest of cities.. is the madness of a genius.”

– A L E X A N D E R H E R Z E N

Truly art in geographical form, Venice is a force to be reckoned with. Built on more than 100 small islands in a lagoon – foot bridges and boat canals connect the city of Venezia to make it easily accessible for all.

I have yet to lay my eyes upon a city more intricate than this one, and quite frankly.. I do not wish to.

JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa:

Siri’s first simple rule for a successful trip: hotel choice. One of the most important decisions you will make when planning a trip is the location and amenities of your hotel.

The JW Marriott Venice Resort & Spa definitely did not disappoint.

With endless pool areas, activities and places to roam – this island resort is mind blowing. Hotel boats are at hand to transport you to and from Venice city, making this the perfect location for peace and quiet, as well as the full Italian experience.

Venice City:

However, behind the modern stance of the JW Marriott, was everything I had imagined and more.

The first activity was definitely a gondola ride down the canal as we learnt about the city’s history. All gondola rides are priced at 80 euros to ensure no haggling takes place.

Fun fact: You can walk from one end of Venice to the other in 45 minutes!

With an array of landmarks to discover and lose yourself within, the maze of Venice saw tiny Italian streets lead you from gelato bars, to churches, to designer stores.

The city is so rich in culture, food and entertainment that you almost forget cars do not exist – and you’ve been on foot almost the whole day.

St Mark’s Square: Piazza San Marco:

So, if I’ve managed to convince you to visit, here is what I’ve learnt from a weekend getaway in Venice.

Venice ‘TOP TIPS’ Checklist:

  1. You can view the whole city in 3/4 days max.
  2. You must travel everywhere via water taxi! (Yes, boats! cars do not exist here)
  3. Ferry tickets are 35 euros from the airport to your hotel – or if your hotel provides boats, you may rent a private transfer. (Price on application).
  4. Book a hotel which has their own boat to transport you to and from the city/ if not – one which is close to a water taxi stop.
  5. Enjoy local restaurants and bars, the food is far more authentic.
  6. Head to outer islands – Burano and Murano are not to be missed.
  7. Do not ignore the tourist sites! – for once these are the best hotspots.
  8. Make sure you experience Venice in the evenings.
  9. If you’re visiting in the summer, bring a hat and some sun cream!
  10. And lastly, be prepared to get lost.

So what are you waiting for? The Italian dream is free! (Well, kind of.)

At the next given opportunity, book that flight to Marco Polo – Venice is waiting for you.
